Chantz
When Chantz was six years old, his mother took him to see the Spike Lee film Mo’ Better Blues about the dramatic life of a trumpet player, and from that time on his fate was sealed. A CD of Louis Armstrong’s Greatest Hits confirmed his ambition, and got him hooked on playing.
He says "I can't remember asking for the trumpet or getting it, it’s always been there, part of me, I don’t know which is my favourite thing - singing, tap dancing or trumpet playing - that’s why I do all three."
After attending the Louis Armstrong Jazz Camp in New Orleans at the age of nine, Chantz began busking, singing at Venice Beach where the passers-by would give him money - and tell him how happy his music made them feel.
There is no doubt that he communicates through his music with a passion. His recent album Stories of Me is about "my journey through life so far, my mum and I together", it tells "how you can’t go through life untouched by love".
