Mission Statement
Young Voices believe passionately that every child should be exposed to the joys of music and inspired through excitement. Whether that joy is confined to singing, playing an instrument, or simply loving the sound of music, the potential benefits are huge.
Once a school has registered for a Young Voices Concert, and over 80% of our schools return every year, a music pack containing a full book of specially arranged music, with separate lyric sheets, and two rehearsal CDs, will be posted to the school during the Summer term. Teachers plan their rehearsal schedule and the children learn all of the songs during the Autumn term in time for the massive concert to be staged in their area just before Christmas. But a school choir which participates in a Young Voices Concert has a much wider experience than simply choral singing which is at the heart of the event. Children will have the opportunity to hear, and sing with, some of the great artists of our day. See YV artists who have performed with us over the last eleven years on www.youngvoicesconcerts.com
A child who loves singing may equally be enthralled by the drum, keyboard, bass guitar, or our young brass section from Chetham’s School of Music or just be carried away by the whole massive musical experience of being in a choir of over 5000 voices performing in front of a capacity audience of thousands.
Young Voices have encouraged singing in schools for over a decade in the certain knowledge that being part of a choir means participating in a winning team where there are no losers, with immeasurable benefits such as the challenge of learning the music and singing in harmony combined with the sheer excitement and anticipation of the forthcoming concert which is the prize for all the hard work undertaken by child and teacher.
Young Voices support two children’s charities namely CLIC Sargent (caring for children with cancer) and Great Ormond Street Children`s Hospital charity (helping to fund research into children’s illnesses.)
The Music Teachers hold a very special position in the Young Voices concept and with children who are both enthusiastic and dedicated to the end result, they eagerly await the arrival of the music pack each year.
Young Voices applaud all moves to encourage singing in schools, but without a very precise understanding of needs of the music teacher and their children, many arrows miss the target. With over 60,000 children every year using the Young Voices music book, learning songs from every genre including carols, gospel, soul, hymns, classical, jazz and pop, and performing in the largest children’s concerts in the world, we believe that our expanding programme will continue to prove to be uniquely successful.
